Dennis Cheok

Dennis Cheok’s journey in design began even before graduating from architectureSchool – working professionally on stage design, branding and sculpting, and culminated with his graduation thesis being nominated by the National University of Singapore(NUS) for the RIBA President’s Medal Award in 2007.

He first helmed his design skills under the directorship of Colin Seah (Ministry of Design,Singapore), and led the design team on illustrious projects across a spectrum of design disciplines and genres, including the multiple-award winning retail masterplan for TANGS Orchard (Singapore), amongst many others. In 2011, he founded UPSTAIRS_, a collaborative spatial design practice which focuses on conceptual ideation, collaborative processes and hands-on material exploration. The studio has garnered regional and international attention for its bespoke design approach.

UPSTAIRS_ was nominated amongst international entries as a shortlist winner for Building of The Year at the 2017 INDE. Awards held in Sydney, Australia; and won 5 awards at the Lookbox Design Awards 2017 in Singapore; including the highest accolades – Home of the Year and Design Firm of the Year. The firm has also the successive recipient of SIDA’s Luminary Awards in the past 2 years, an award honouring the best Singapore-designed projects at the Singapore Interior Design Awards; and has most recently received a Silver at the Singapore Design Awards 2018/19 for the studio’s Multi-Disciplinarian body of work, including space-making, object-making and image-making.



毕业后的他在知名设计师Colin SeahMinistry of Design)麾下展开首秀,带领设计团队进入跨设计学科和流派的项目,其中包括获奖无数的乌节路董氏大厦设计总纲图。2011年,他成立了UPSTAIRS_,一家精于概念构想、设计合作、亲手材料甄选的空间设计工作室。UPSTAIRS_的定制设计表现也获得了区域和国际关注。

UPSTAIRS_2017年澳洲悉尼的INDE. 大奖中被提名年度建筑奖,并在新加坡的Lookbox Design Awards 2017摘下五个大奖,包括最佳住宅最佳设计室两个最高荣誉。UPSTAIRS_也在新加坡室内设计大奖中连续两年荣膺Luminary大奖——一项认可最佳新加坡作品的奖项;并在新加坡设计大奖2018/19中以其跨学科能力(包括空间制作、物体制作、图像制作)荣获银奖。
