Dr. Christian Boucharenc is a practising French architect who has worked with some famous architects and designers including Juha Leiviska and Matti Rautiola from Arrak in Finland, and Toshiyuki Kita in Japan. He has been involved in designing apartments in Finland as well as in the designing of products such as furniture in Japan. He is also the architect responsible for several current building projects in Bali and Singapore.
Dr. Boucharenc studied architecture in Paris, France, and completed his training by specialising in product design at the University of Art and Design in Finland, and at the Royal Danish Academy in Denmark. He received his Ph.D. at the Kobe Design University in Japan. Dr. Boucharenc is an Associate Professor, Head of the Division of Industrial Design at the National University of Singapore. His field of research is design fundamentals and design principles. As an academic, he has written a book about his teaching methods and practice of basic design.
Dr. Boucharenc plays an active role in promoting design in Singapore. He introduced the world-renowned Japanese designer Toshiyuki Kita to Singapore, who was a consultant to DesignSingapore. As Dr. Boucharenc is also a regional representative of The Vitra Design Museum in France, he has been involved in the organising of international design exhibitions in Singapore. The exhibition on Arabic culture, titled “Under the Crescent Moon”, held at the National Museum of Singapore, and the exhibition on the famous Danish designer Verner Panton, are two events which Dr. Boucharenc was personally involved as a representative of The Vitra Design Museum.
